Oscilloscope Digitizer
While serving in the Air Force at what was then called the Air Force Weapons Laboratory, I designed and implemented a digitizer for analyzing oscilloscope traces. The original information was in the form of Polaroid photographs. My software automated the process of grabbing the image with a frame grabber, detected the trace automatically, and digitized the data.In the process of developing this software, I also noticed that the calibration method that had been used to date with the older hand-digitizing procedures actually introduced error into the digital data. The training I introduced with the software eliminated this source of error.
The result was a system that was both faster and more accurate.
