ORCA/M
I began writing computer languages in 1980. Soon after, ORCA/M was published through Hayden Software. ORCA/M was, for the time, a remarkable product. It was the first macro assembler for a microcomputer that had all of the macro features of a full-scale mainframe assembler. ORCA/M followed the syntax of the IBM 360 assembler very closely. After the demise of Hayden Software, we go the publishing rights back and released a new version of ORCA/M for the Apple II. Apple Computer selected ORCA/M to become Apple Programmer's Workshop, the standard development environment for the Apple IIGS computer. We also retained the rights to continue publishing our own version, which continued to see under the trade name ORCA/M.
I wrote the original 6502 assembler and the support environment, which included a text editor, shell, link editor, and many support utilities. As the product matured, I built a small team of programmers who helped port and test the product on a total of three Apple II based operating systems.
